There are some kids in Montana that are suing the state for not addressing global climate change. They’re not the first kids to do this in the US, but they’re the first to get on npr while I’m listening.

The npr lady (Cherry Brad or Peach Greg or whatever her name is) was saying that they are getting attention because Montana actually has (had?) it in its constitution–the right to a clean and safe space. Opponents of ~literally the safety of children and our future~ have said that the kids are being coached.

One kid spoke on npr. They sounded scared.

Why wouldn’t we be scared, was generally the gist.

I feel like as a parent I’m failing because:

  1. I have not solved global climate change
  2. I have not eradicated racism
  3. she won’t wear the new clothes i just got her
  4. despite knowing what I could do with her hair, she won’t let me touch it

Lots of other reasons, but those are the big ones. Especially that last one.

No, but in all seriousness: what have we done?

What have we lost, in the name of profit?

It’s easier to think about this than do anything about it, in the same way it’s easier to complain my coffee is watery than to ask for it without ice. Than to not have condensation lick cold tongues down my fingers as I drink. Like the world could survive me, so long as I talk about it.

Survive me, fuck it! Survive her. Please.
