The Kitchen

The kitchen has been through some shit.

When we first moved in, there was a giant hold in the flooring where the old fridge used to be. We paid someone lots of money to patch it, but they couldn’t hook up the fridge to the water supply. They left the supply dripping though, and the floor swelled up and bloated, curling around the edges. Insurance gave us money to fix it, and we got a new tile floor.

We had the cabinets painted ‘relentless olive’ when we moved in, and the walls painted ‘earthen jug.’ It wasn’t the kitchen I planned. The countertops were all wrong, but we couldn’t in a million years afford new ones. Now I love them though, and wipe them down as often as executive function allows. I love the green, and the pulls we spent a hundred dollars on, and the earthen jug walls. I love how it became obvious after a month or two of wondering what to put above the window that daughter’s artwork fit the bill. I love that we marked her height next to the fridge.

It is the part of this house I love most.
