Every day you have to walk past the car at least once. It sits in the cold, layers of trash decaying inside it, maggots long since starved. It’s white on the outside, and dented from when someone else was texting and driving and hit me, though it matters less since it wasn’t my fault.

I thought it was a good idea at the time. It seemed to be a steal. They were stealing from us, though, and it turned out to be sour enough to parch us of at least 4k. Now it doesn’t run and it’s getting repossessed, not fast enough to prevent you from seeing it every day when you leave, when you come in. A fresh douse of resentment, pointed directly at me. Why didn’t I stop and think. Why didn’t I know better. I always do this.
