Daily writing prompt
Are you patriotic? What does being patriotic mean to you?

I haven’t written here for a long time. Mostly because I’ve been writing elsehwere, really just FINISHING my second novel, deciding whether I’m going to go to a second round of querying this thing, the best thing I’ve ever written, or just kdp it.

I think I might kdp it.

Not because I don’t think it’d get published. I’ve already gotten interest. I think it’s a weird thing, though: traditional publishing used to be all I really wanted. I wanted someone to validate me, give me a huge check, and take it from here.

Now that I’m staring down the barrel of that possibility, I’m honestly not too sure.

The biggest loss will be the giant check. I don’t need the rest, at this point. I can market myself, and have before, and probably would more effectively than someone who’s never read my book. I definitely don’t need the validation, at least from someone who’s trying to market something.

I used to say about querying: writing is like bathing your inner child and applying a bandage to their scraped knee. Querying is trying to sell the bandage.

Why would I want to do something that starts with that?

My latest book is by far the best thing I’ve ever written. It’s the most marketable, too, the most consumable. Genre fiction all the way, with a queer love tilt because of course there is. Speculative Romance because what else am I capable of penning, for real.

I kind of don’t wanna give it up.
